You may consider procps-ng-3.3.3 which is a fork with many fixes include and a test suite.
Test suite is a bit young :
- debian 3.3.3 .orig package miss two tests files testsuite/lib.test/fileutils_{badfd,full}.sh include in gitorious tree.
- test suite require dejagnu (and 'which' ) usage
