Making the test work for GPU formats appears to require some changes in
the architecture which were not necessary as long as only CPU formats
were implemented, and since there was a workaround (just start each GPU
format test separately: ./john --test --format=...), other things have
been more important.

Since the jumbo version also supports
./john --list=format-details
it would be easy to create a test script which runs each format test
separately.
