Windows does have similar "shortcuts" to home much like tilde(~),

(try to "cd %homepath%" for instance). I'm not sure how cygwin/mingw
access them (http://cygwin.com/cygwin-ug-net/setup-env.html ?)
although the registry would probably work. If Johnny or another GUI
get up and running soon I'll be happy to help if a MSI or other
installer package is requested.
