Subject: passwords more that 8 chars long

Its been days since i've been trying to crack this password using John the Ripper 1.7.6, but i have not been successful. I tried a lot of different things as mentioned in the faq but i've ended up in vain. The password is from the shadow file in CentOS 5.5,

root:$1$Cnq2FbUw$B9s1v00aP0k16tgsWQQAc0:15027:0:99999:7:::

this should be the output - groupsuper3
but i'm not getting it. i even tried creating a dictionary called mylist with just this password and doing

./john -w:mylist mypasswd

it says guessing .. but doesn't crack it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Ayush
