slackware already brings sendmail in a almost configured state, you
	can start in there...
with a few change you can have the slackware sendmail working for
receive and delivery of email for your domain...
note that you may also need to setup your DNS info for your domain
so that you can receive email from other in the internet

i personally like ALOT more postfix, its pretty simple of setting up
and configure it (see the postfix.org site for more documentation)

> And a deeper guide for subsequent configuration?

for documentation, i recommend you start with learning exactly how
email works and only then setup the emails servers...
also, learn howto maintain a internet server (security, firewall,
updates, services, service backup, etc) if dont know that already

the www.tldp.org is the place to start with all this questions...
then jump to the MTA site of your choice and read the documentation
	in there

if you are new to linux, check the rute.sf.net and
slackware.com/book, they give a very good intro to unix and linux

also check the local installed documentation in /usr/doc/linux-*
	like this one:

/usr/doc/Linux-HOWTOs/Mail-Administrator-HOWTO

	good luck
