Subject: Lei's weekly report #8

Accomplishments:
- investigate some issues discovered when running OpenSSL-linked JtR on MIC, including bugs in dynamic formats, and potentially erroneous auto-vectorization in dominosec8
- verify that OpenSSL-linked JtR passes all self-tests on MIC, with interleaving factors all set to 1, and dominosec8 disabled
- find out formats that performs sub optimally with NUM_OMP_THREADS=240

Priorities:
- fix the issues regarding dynamic formats and dominosec8
- tune OMP_SCALE for formats found above

Here I'd like to discuss a bit about my progress in GSoC. There're originally 4 tasks in my project:
1. AVX2 support
2. MIC/AVX-512 support
3. non-x86 SIMD intrinsics
4. Better SIMD implementations of SHA-2 hashes and higher-level schemes

Tasks 1 and 2 are almost done, with great help from other contributors. The first two tasks might still need some polishing, but I think I could start task 3 now. I've already got an account for GCC Farm, so the non-x86 platforms are ready.

As for timeline, so far I haven't complied well to my schedule. I thought I'd soon be fully available after the official start of coding period, but yet I still haven't finished my final exams... Anyway, I'll finish all my exams within this month, and afterwards I can be fully productive. I think two month's full-time (or a bit less) working should be enough for the remaining two tasks. And if there's enough time left, I can arrange for further improvements or smaller subtasks.
