Subject: [openwall-announce] Passwords^12 (December 3-5, Oslo)

Hi,

Simon Marechal (aka Bartavelle), a long-time contributor to John the Ripper
-jumbo, is going to speak at Passwords^12 in Oslo, Norway. This is a
single-track three-day event (December 3-5, 2012) "focusing ONLY on
passwords & PIN codes in all forms, shapes and sizes". Other speakers
include Joan Daemen (one of the authors of both AES and SHA-3), Colin
Percival (the author of scrypt and Tarsnap, and FreeBSD Security Officer
Emeritus), atom (the author of hashcat), and Bitweasil (the author of
Cryptohaze Multiforcer). Of course, this list is vastly incomplete.
Here's the conference program:

On day 2, Simon is going to speak on probabilistic candidate password
generators, explaining and improving upon JtR's current Markov mode,
which Simon is the author of. On day 3, Simon will present a revision
of my PHDays talk on the history of password hashing, updated to reflect
new developments of the second half of 2012.

Given the selection of speakers and topics, I think it's safe to say
that Passwords^12 is going to be great. Do attend it if you can.

Alexander
