At some point I was hoping Solar would continue development of --fork in 
core, so I'm kinda stalled waiting for that. If he ever does, my plan 
was/is to make MPI work the same (even if completely different under the 
hood).

Personally I'd prefer to see *only* a summary line when running MPI or 
fork, so it would feel more like OpenMP. At least unless --verbosity is 
bumped or something like that.
