john-users - external mode/filter with other modes without filter function

Subject: external mode/filter with other modes without filter function

I found that external mode in conjunction with other modes works even
if there is no filter function defined. It works like there is no
-external key at all (as I think). Documentation (doc/EXTERNAL) says
(in brackets) "and only filter() will be required". So may it be
better to stop and show something like external mode says when there
is no generate() function: "No filter() for external mode: <name>"?
