I'm sorry, but this does not really compare the two versions of JtR.
Any discrepancies in c/s rate must be accidental (different placement in
CPU caches, etc.), which is particularly common at c/s rates this high.

The changes in 1.7.4 were focused on word mangling rules support and
performance of word mangling rules, whereas the sessions above went to
"incremental mode" (reported as pass 3) during the first 3 seconds (or
perhaps during the first second even).
