I have seen some slowness in some of the rule and pre-procesing
rules also.  I will put looking into optimizations of the rules into 
my todo list, when I have some time.   

I also see that Solar posted some things where you might have been
using more pre-processing  rules than you thought you were.  But
I have also seen what I think are some areas of the rule code that
are running slower than they ought.
