Agreed; my only counter would be to request that it be integrated into
the core code sooner rather than later.  As such, 3rd-party patch
maintainers don't have to maintain two revisions of code, as it were:
one against vanilla JtR and one against -all-X.

As usual, I'll let it simmer for a while, then go do my own thing if
upstream doesn't pick up on it.  I may consider forking this time, but
that's pretty much idle speculation as not much of my time is idle.
