Don't know where the problem is, but it's specific to you.  Following  
the exact same steps with the exact same two file, mine patches and  
then compiles just fine.  You seem to be erroring out on patching  
file src/MD5_fmt.c.  Double check your download an ensure you have  
*all* the files.
