BTW, "Many salts" being slower than "Only one salt" on this benchmark
suggests that something is highly non-optimal.  This shouldn't normally
be the case.  "Many salts" is supposed to be at least as fast as "Only
one salt", and possibly slightly faster (but probably not for any of the
PHC finalists, where these two should be roughly the same).
