Agreed.  However, everyone had too much fun fighting to get patches done. 
Success without going through pain is not as sweet as success after you have 
been beat down for a while :)  If things were done right from the start, you 
would not appreciate it as much, once the job does get done well.

That is only a limitation on Win95/98 (which are just a GUI over DOS and 
using DOS's command.com).  NT/XP or any newer have cmd.exe which does not 
have any 80 column DOS limitation. I usually run at 140 to 160 columns, 
depending upon monitor resolution.
