Users of Openwall software are very welcome to join the corresponding mailing list(s) that we host, ask on-topic questions, answer questions being asked by others, and otherwise participate in discussions. Currently, we host three such mailing lists:
Subscription instructions for the above mailing lists are to be found on the corresponding projects' web pages.
Additionally, anyone is welcome to join the announcements-only mailing list to stay informed of noteworthy Openwall news (the list traffic is very low). Subscription instructions for this one are found on the main page of this website.
We also host the Openwall community wiki. The idea is to have a wiki "namespace" for each of our major projects, maybe resembling the structure of the main Openwall website - e.g., we have namespaces for Owl and John the Ripper. Users of our software and Openwall team members can populate those namespaces with relevant content. If you have something relevant to share, please register for a wiki account and edit away!
The Open Source software security (oss-security) wiki, as well as oss-security and xvendor mailing lists, are a product of cooperation amongst various Open Source software vendors, projects, and security researchers.
Openwall is a registered public member of oCERT (the Open Source Computer Emergency Response Team) such that we can be sure to receive notification of vulnerabilities pertaining to our software (and, far more likely, to third-party software that we redistribute as part of Openwall GNU/*/Linux) that will be handled via oCERT. Other Open Source projects are welcome to register with oCERT, too. Additionally, Solar Designer of Openwall serves on the advisory board of oCERT.
We're also a member of oss-security, xvendor, and vendor-sec, and are registered with the CERT/CC.
